False, his default RAM voltage is 2.1v.  (http://www.corsair.com/_datasheets/TWIN … 6400C4.pdf) .
You can increase it safe to 2.2/2.3 if you need. If you want more get some additional cooling for the RAM,which is  RAM is pretty good for OC.

You decrease the multiplayer to increase the FSB, if FSB gets higher then your RAM rated speed then you should OC your RAM ("pressure it" ) also you may need to do the same to the Nordbridge to boot at lets say 450-500FSB+, depends on the mobo.  So lower multi = higher FSB and eventuall stress on the Nordbridge and RAM,  higher multi = lower FSB ~ no stress. In your case with the 400FSB, there is no difference. But why would you want to run at 7x400?

well i was just wondering because my friend cant get his computer stable @ 400x9 but if he use 450x8 he can get it stable. Thats why i wondered what the multiplier was for, because i think thats kinda strange when its the same clockspeed.

the link u posted says that at OC the ram is capable of reaching 2.1v (max) from it orignal 1.8v, that is not safe for all ram out there, there is a reason why they put it in the add ;-)

that your ram runs at 1.8v doesnt mean that all ram sticks run at 1.8v.
His RAM is DESIGNED to run at 2.1v, its RAM for OC. And these types of sticks alot of times REQUERE to be set at 2.1v (or whatever is default) for your PC to  BOOT AT ALL. Next time better do some reading before making such statements, you clearly lack some knowledge.

I got memory that doesn't start until i give them at least 2.2v

hi people, I got a few questions regarding OC CPU!

I got a E6400 @ 2.13Ghz -
My mb supports the autooverclock thingy, which OC it at 2.6Ghz (that means it actually runs at 2.6Ghz not 2.13Ghz)
It works all fine at average 55 Celsius (peak at 62). Though I find new games, especialy Crysis gets a lot of help from a bit faster settings at 3.15Ghz.

To get 3.15Ghz I use -
FSB 450
Multiplier 7x
Default core voltage at 1.280V (peaks at 1.296V)
Temperatures are 55 Idle and 69 peak. I guess the average is always around 65.
I`m taking the temperatures of the core #1, the second is around 2 degress colder.

My question here is are those temperatures too hot? Comparing it to default ones makes it 5 degress hotter, is that something to worry about?

#890377 by unknown[58044] at 2008-01-26 13:03:17 (5 years ago) - [Report]Top

Nothing to worry about, except that if peaks at 60C at the default settings  then your cooling doesnt seems not very good.

#890380 by unknown[204702] at 2008-01-26 13:07:56 (5 years ago) - [Report]Top

Im using some zalman 9500LED thingy, it was expensive and its supposed to be good. Im worried since when the pc is turned on I usually max it, that means getting those 67 celsius when OC at 3.15Ghz regulary. Will that be a significant impact on the CPU lifespan?

#890381 by SimonDonor (First Line Support) at 2008-01-26 13:09:24 (5 years ago) - [Report]Top

okay I have a problem myself... my cpu is at 3ghz with the default multiplier of 9, now when I go to raise the memory speed anything over 800 the OS keeps crashing or it doesnt do a full boot. It does this even on 815mhz (clock speed of memory), any ideas as to why?

E6600 2.4GHz @ 3GHz (stock is 1066, oc'd to 1333)
EVGA 650i Ultra
Corsair XMS2 DDR800 PC6400 (running on the max my board allows which is 2.1V)

Simon i get that when I`m over 470 on FSB (that is around 1000 instead of 800). To get higher I tried increasing voltages on FSB Overvoltage control (if u got that) by 0.1V and it started working just fine. Otherwise I got BS and random crashes

#890385 by SimonDonor (First Line Support) at 2008-01-26 13:36:44 (5 years ago) - [Report]Top

the max my fsb goes for some reason is 1.4v and its already on max

the cpu core is also on 1.35v
memory 2.1v
spp 1.3v

fsb is 356mhz now... 356x9=3204

dont know if G0 is on E6600's or not but my revision is a B2

try increasing the memory voltage to 2.2-2.3 and also try to use  5-5-5-15 for timings.

#890421 by SimonDonor (First Line Support) at 2008-01-26 15:38:20 (5 years ago) - [Report]Top

as stated above the max my mobo does is 2.1v cant go to 2.2 or 2.3 at all

Hey folks, I over clocked my core 2 duo E6750 a few days ago from 333x8 to 400x7. CPU-z is on my side, however Everest and 3dmark say it's set to 457x7. Anyways, you guessed it I'm a noob. Here's some pics. Any advice would be appreciated.

I've got some temps problem i need some advice with.

I have a Intel Core 2 Quad processor running at 3.2Ghz (400*8) and a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme (with a nexus 120x120)
Now to the problem, when i run prime95 the load temperatures is like this:

core1: 57
core2: 47
core3: 48
core4: 57

Thats 10degrees celcius difference..
I have reapplied the cooler 3times already, the thirdtime i rotated it 180degrees and got 10celcius difference instead of 12celcius.
I have also measured the cpu and cooler. The CPU is fairly straight surfaced, but the cooler is not, its very skew ) so what should i do?
Is it possible to just lap the cooler and get better temperatures? (less difference)
Or will i get screwed if i lap only the cooler and not the CPU?

(I dont want to lap the CPU, because its my first time and i dont afford a new one ^^)

Sounds like your heatsink and/or paste isn't reaching Core0 and Core3.
Here's what the cores look like:

http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/Q66 … s/core.jpg
Core0 and 3 are on the far edges of the processor.
If your paste didn't reach the edge and/or your heatsink is hanging over (not reaching them), they won't be cooled.

Usually Core0 and Core1 are the same temperature.
Core3 and Core4 are around 5C cooler.

So what you're seeing isn't normal.
Paste should be applied in a thin straight line horizontally across all four cores.  And then make sure the TRUE is seated across the entire heat plate, and that you tighten the screws in a zig-zag fasihion, all the way tightened!

Also your heatsink base could be concave (higher at the edges) so the far sides of your base won't be touching the cores.  If that's the case, lapping will help.  If not, then send it back.

I know their new heatsinks (IR-04 or something) have major issues with being flat.

Ah ive been looking for a picture of the cores, but never found one.
Well i have looked at arctic coolings homepage for instructions for applying the Arctic Silver 5, and as stated above i have reapplied the paste/cooler 3times and its the same result each time. Also tighten the screws zig-zag each time.

Yes the heatsink is concave in ONE edge. Its fairly straight in one end and conecave in the other ("big" gaps if i put a ruler on it, i have also put a ruler on the CPU and its not eaven near the gaps of the cooler) and this seems to be a big problem with the TRUE coolers generally.

So i guess i will lap the cooler in the near future. Because it isnt dangerous having it like it is now? (the temps are fairly good imo)

would love a nice guide to lapping since i have never done it before. (with good pictures)

thanks!

You're using CoreTemp right?
What are your idle temps and what's the temp of your room?

I'm on a Q6600 G0 at 8x400 with a TRUE.
Same CPU, speed, and cooler.  You can compare temps to mine if you want.

I don't know my ambient though (no thermometer)

Yes im using coretemp, i dont have any room temp either, but its not hot and not cold hehe. my idle temps are:

core0: 36
core1: 33
core2: 33
core4: 35

And the load temps:

core0: 58
core1: 49
core2: 48
core4: 58

what are yours?

I'm at  39/39/33/33 idle.
My load temps definitely aren't that high... My Core0 and Core1 are always the same temp, Core2 and Core3 the same temp.

Cores0/1 never pass 55C after about 6+ hours of Prime95.
After about 10 minutes they're around 52C.

[edit]
btw let your prime95 run for a few hours, and if it settles around 58C to 60C then your temps are fine.  Don't worry about it.

But if you want lower temps and/or to OC more, you should look into getting your heatsink fixed.

Otherwise it's fine where they are.  Just don't let it pass 65C.

well im at my forth hour prime'ing atm (checking if its stable since i lowered the vcore a bit). and 58 is the highest they get. (core 0 and 3 that is) the other two never passes 51.

edit:
Yeah i guess ill leave it at this for the moment, when i know i can afford a new heatsink i will lap it

#896175 by CusmaR (Power User) at 2008-02-07 01:50:46 (5 years ago) - [Report]Top

my vcore is 1.275 (original vcore 1.25) Taken from BIOS

CPU-Z says 1.216 atm under load.

Well i cant say why everest shows 457mhz FSB, but i can guess why 3dmark says 3.2ghz.
When i right click on my computer and choose settings(?) i get info about my system, but there it says 3.6ghz (400*9) i dont know why it counts the max multiplier. (my clock is 3.2ghz @ 400x8), also mirc says 3.6ghz too.

My everest does show the right clock, but maybe thats because i have "Everest Ultimate Edition" and you just have home edition.

hope this helps

does anybody have a clue if its safe to go more than 0.2 BELOW the default voltage - on both cores?

I recently noticed my cpu E6400 runs with the same temperature (as default) if I overclock it to 3ghz and lower the voltage by 0.2V. It runs stable and it has the same peaks as deafult clocked and with default voltages. Does this lower voltage make any problem even though the system runs stable?

Any ideas appreciated...

As long as you can Prime95 for 12+ hours stable then it's fine.

Holy shit.
Let's play a game called "Guess my room temperature".

btw my PC has been running since Thursday.

Hey I have a problem.. Tried overclocking my computer, with just touching FSB, DRAM frequency and CPU voltage.. I can run it stable on 300 FSB = 2700 CPU clock.. But I cant run 320 or even 315 without getting an immediate reboot at windows startup..

I've read that my E6600 should give me around 3.3-3.5 without trouble, I run a scythe air cooler so that shouldn't be a problem.. So I was wondering. I have CPU voltage set to auto in BIOS and CPU-Z says its at 1.328. That is pretty high is it not? I can't raise it much higher than that without risking CPU damage? Do I have a weird copy of a E6600 or should I raise something other than those values?
