Yup! There is an X48 chipset you can even pre-order the boards.

well,
i'm done OC my new e2140 1.6Ghz @3.0Ghz

with:
Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L
and kingstone ddr2-667 valueram

1st i made sure that i was able to OC the ram from 667 to 800, of course i had to lower the timing to 5-6-6-17 and with FSB:RAM ratio = 5:6 (FSB333, ram800)

then with FSB:ram = 1:1
i finally hit the FSB wall of my e2140 between 400 and 375
the vcore was 1.4v
increased the ram by +0.4v
increased every other volt with +0.1v
those volts just to be safe stability wise, for sure i will not keeping over volting my pc

@Xi0nic
it is Weired that the website of gigabyte is outdated :look:

edit:
on stock cooling :
idle @30c, full load @65c

temps are far to high

Lord have mercy, if SpeedFan is showing 65C... I'm scared to see your CoreTemp!
Screenshot your memory tab, please.

I checked my old posts and found this:

Idle temp is 30C with stock cooler and Arctic Silver 5.  Load temp is low 50's.

My stepping revision is M0.  I think qbert's E2140 is also M0 stepping.
Also your heatsink could be mounted wrong.  Did you use Arctic Silver 5 paste?

Product codes for M0:

Quote:

E4400 M0: SLA98
E2160 M0: SLA8Z
E2140 M0: SLA93

About the X48:
It's not released yet.  Comes out in January, last I heard.

this my current memory timings,

when i tested max FSB for the ram it was : 399 , 5:6 , 5.0 , 6 , 6 , 17

This image has been resized, click here to view the full-sized image.

about the temps , those temps i guess are high because of the high volts or high FSB-375 or something
currently i run @2.6 with FSB333 ,
temps: idle @23c , fullload @55c

Use CoreTemp.

#875334 by hmhefDonor (VIP) at 2007-12-29 23:50:52 (5 years ago) - [Report]Top

just got coretemp

idle:

is this temps are bad ?, i tried touching the heatsink under the cpu fan and it wasn't that hot, could it be the fan not touching the cpu right ?

Describe how you mounted the heatsink.
It's pretty straight-forward, but a lot of people forget to clamp the pins down properly...

Also if you used the stock paste, I'd recommend buying some better stuff (Arctic Silver 5 or the diamond one would also work), and remount the heatsink + use the new paste.

The AS5 should cut some degrees off your temps.

#875343 by hmhefDonor (VIP) at 2007-12-30 00:04:11 (5 years ago) - [Report]Top

- i want to let u know that this temps are with 10% cpu usage

- how bad r the temps any way ?

- i remember that i mounted the fan before i even put the MB in the case, so i'm pretty sure i put it right, however it could be that i used to many of the thermal past
BTW, i removed intel's thermal paste and added my own white paste

also the heatsink is aluminium not the good ones that have copper core

is it realy worth it to remove and chech the cpu fan, because i HATE it, i always think i'm going to break the MB

#875347 by Xi0nicDonor (Power User) at 2007-12-30 00:16:14 (5 years ago) - [Report]Top

Run Prime95 or Orthos for about 30 minutes, then use CoreTemp to check the temperatures.
I try to keep mine below 60C.

#875351 by hmhefDonor (VIP) at 2007-12-30 00:26:16 (5 years ago) - [Report]Top

orthos 10min: 62c
BTW, i'm not using any case fans, i'm thinking of getting 1 fan or so to lower the temps a little

i'm going to be looking for a better thermal paste any way

thnkx Xi0nic

#875352 by Xi0nicDonor (Power User) at 2007-12-30 00:29:02 (5 years ago) - [Report]Top

Well as far as stability goes, 62c is fine.
But generally speaking they could be lower...

I'm not too familiar with the E2xxx series.  My E2160 was revision M0 (whatever that means) and with the stock Intel fan and Arctic Silver 5 paste, it idled on 30C with 0% CPU Usage at 3 ghz 9x333.  After 24 hours of Prime95 the peak temperature I saw was 62C.  Average load temperature was about 55C.

If you don't feel like messing with it anymore then those temps are acceptable.  But if you want lower temps and/or to get a higher OC you might want to look into it.

You might be able to return the E2140 to where you bought it, and exchange it for an M0 Stepping E2140.

lol..my e6300 has been running idle at 60+ 24/7 for over a year.   Under load it gets near 70.

Wow, you've got balls.
With your CPU at that temp, you're pumping some serious heat into your room.

[edit]
btw my ambient temp in my house right now is 77F.
My E2160 CoreTemp is reporting 23C and 23C, which is 73F.

got q6600 and a Tuniq tower 120
MSI 975X PE

I wanna get my cpu to 3ghz how mutch volt may i use for it ? got now 2.8ghz on 1.35 volt think volt can gow lower ?

Is there a list of steps witch volt u need on how many ghz ?

Is it a B3 stepping or G0?
The volts are different for each chip.

The Q6600 should reach 3 GHz on stock voltage.  Check CoreTemp for your VID.
You can also leave VCore set to "Auto" and your motherboard will automatically volt your CPU for you.  I think the board usually over volts it, so you could get lower vcores by tweaking it yourself.

You have vcore set as 1.350 manually in your bios?
I'm running my G0 at 3.2 GHz with 1.250v in my bios.  I tried Priming lower vcores and both were unstable after 2 hours.

Use CPU-Z and it say B3
Ihave my bios set on 1,350v manually
Not auto tested

Edit:
on 2,8Ghz on auto he takes 1,240v
If i say 2,9 / 3,0 ghz it starts hardly and if it starts in windows blue screen and restarts itself

Can anyone help me please.....

I need to know about all the different voltages in Asus bios mines the commando but im sure a majority will be the same with the 965 chipset, any help would be appreciatted..-=cozee=-

#876555 by unknown[58044] at 2008-01-01 00:26:50 (5 years ago) - [Report]Top

voltages in Asus BIOS menu:

Vcore = CPU voltage (dont set it to over 1.50-1.55v with air cooling for 24/7 overclock )
vMCH =  Northbridge voltage (be carefull with that , Commando motherboards are very easy to ruin if you set it to high (1.6+) without proper coolng, for not-so-extreme OCes usually raising it with 0.10 from the default value is enough)
vICH = Southbridge voltage (usually doesnt play a role in overclocking)
vFSB = FSB Termination voltage  (usually auto is OK, optimal value is motherboard specific(trial and error))

that will not be easy to return stuff, i can only return it if it came damaged, but it is working fine, and my temps maybe +10 thats becasue of the stock setup i have, and as i said before no case cooling so the heat builds up

any way; i opened the case and i saw that at idle the cpu fan stops completly :w00t: , when i ran orthos or open a video file it worked again, so thats why my idle temps are a bit high

@hmhef
i probably told you this before, but here goes again.

disable any smart fan controlling from your bios, will help you maintain better temps.

u r a god man demagh, always remebering me like that :-)

anyway i did disabled the smart fan from the bios actually a couple of times, but i did a lot of "set fault deafault settings" and i didnt turn it back off

the I-cool aplication i installed from the MB cd tells me that at temps >66c fan will be 100% so i dont have to worry i guess

hey i got a question.  got my new comp set up today finally and i've downloaded cpu-z and noticed that my multiplier jumps and so does the core speed.

it goes from x6 to x10 and changes back and forth every second.

what's wrong here?  i still haven t updated the bios and plan on doing so when i wake up so i can over clock.
