Does anyone use abit guru? I want to know which parts of the display affects what pieces of hardware.
I want to overclock my system to encode movies faster.

amd 64 939 venice core
ocz ddr 400 platinum rev 2 . 2.2.2.3
abit an8 ultra

btw, If I try to overclock my speeds and the tests says its ok, is it definitely ok, or will it just be ok for 5 minutes then fry my cpu or something.
No... i have never overclocked before.

In 99.9% your computer will freeze. There is 0.01% chance to fry some hardware. But before any OC attempt you have to read carefull many OC guides mentioned up here

ts there any apps to turn off computer if the temp goes sky high when not at computer,a beep is handy but not much good if not around

:throw:

hey guys,

I have a AMD64 3000+ (Venice core) and have tried a bit of overclocking and got it up to ~2.1ghz. If i set the FSB any higher than this it wont boot. The weird thing is, ive had the pc running about 3-4 hrs now and the cpu temp is only 30 Degrees C, which seems pretty good to me.

shouldnt I get higher than this? I heard people could get up to about 2.7-2.8. I have stock cooling btw. Any suggestions?

edit: oh yeah, forgot to mention my motherboard is an asus a8v-dlx, and i have 1024mb corsair pc3200 (XMS)if that matters.

@Geostigma in your case you have to try memory dividers first to hit your max CPU speed then when you determine finaly your CPU overclocking ability must play with the DRAM timings and settings(which is not easy job).If you're using memory divider 166/200mhz at FSB 200 your memory will work at 166mhz

hi, i just finished putting the parts on my pc.

p4p800SE
evo33 cooler

for some reason when i try to overclock in the bios it says "overclocking failed!"

tried 5% overclock and 30% overclock still the same.

Anyways. As standard as it now, i've actually gained more

Original PC:

With Asus board and a few other parts:

Any help appreciated

EDIT

after updating the bios i managed to overclock it to 5% - any ting over that and it will either say "overclocking failed" or just wont boot.

I take it you have to fiddle around with the voltages and other settings, looks like a big read. :-P

Pic of 5% overclock

ps: its running @ 33C

Your Ram is probably slowing you down.

Try setting changing the dividers from 1:1 to 5:4

Also a great hardware forum and a good active over clocking forum. Highly recommended for keen over-clockers

hi,
after spending a few days on it and help from a few forums, i managed to overclock my pc to 3.60Ghz

700Mhz was the max FSB i could get, i dont know why i didnt do this sooner -i thought i would end up harming parts on my pc. So far so good, its idling @ 33+. Thanks to everyone who helped! appreciated

What are the steps to take when overclocking? I cant even raise mine by 50 mhz it crashes.
btw im using abit guru softmenu to overclock manually with:
abit an8 ultra
amd athlon 64 3200 venice core
ocz platinum rev 2 ddr 400 2.2.3

I know my ram isn't perfect for overclocking but I expected to at least hit maybe 500 extra.

#377532 by GomezieDonor (Power User) at 2005-09-14 11:54:49 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

as small steps as possible.. 50mhz is a huge leap to start with

#377560 by unknown[91684] at 2005-09-14 12:25:47 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

surely my chip should overclock more than that right? anyway..
once I reach my limit on cpu, then I fiddle with ram settings right?
I went into advanced chipset properties and you find the htt ratio htt is fsb on this mobo?
Well you can choose from 1x - 5x  What exactly is the goal here? It was set to auto, but i think im supposed to try overclocking the ram next, so should  i start with 1 and work my way up or what?

#377801 by unknown[80538] at 2005-09-14 16:38:13 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

you're not using software doing your overclock, are u?
if so, stop doing that and do it with the mb's bios..!!
