Hey, this might be a weird question..

I'm wondering what the stock voltage for an Core 2 E6600 is?

Because in my bios it says "auto" vCore, and I want to set it to stock vcore so I can up the freq to the maximum amount then increase it slowly.. If you know what i mean.

I searched google but can't seem to find it..

Hey thanks

Didnt know that vCore was different for all motherboards.. Guess I'll have to put it low and test my way ahead then..

it is not motherboard dependent, it is simply processor dependent

"Vcore: (Example: 1.425) "Stock" is not acceptable. It is not the same on different motherboards."

Taken from that site.. That isn't true then?

can't say so and obviously contradicting a well known site like that, but these new intel motherboards are just out to set new standards and new overclocking/performance record

though, whenever u purchase a processor, in the tech spec table u'd always find the vcore range for  this specific processor, while this information will not be provided through the tech spec table of ANY motherboard, at least from what i've seen with most intel/amd motherboards currently available nowadays.

Alright..

When raising vCore, does this increase chipset voltage aswell? I have passive cooling for the chipset right now(stock), so raising temperatures there might not be wise..

no it doesn't raise vchip as well, no worries there.

anyway, if the chipset is passively cooled, then an air flow is highly recommended too keep temps down a bit, may be even lower than designed, this will maintain system stability at some point in when overclocking

just wondering:
why did it take a whole week for someone to respond to this post? guess u got a bit unlucky

does anybody know what ''FATAL ERROR: Reading from temp file'' in prime95 stability test stands for?

the error showed up after 5 hours of testing.

#715950 by pcgamerDonor (User) at 2006-10-26 04:10:44 (6 years ago) - [Report]Top

^^ from what I know .. any error in prime 95 = bad = CPU not stable

#715958 by mselo4ever4 (User) at 2006-10-26 04:35:06 (6 years ago) - [Report]Top

the error showed up after 5 hours, while most people say that runnig prime95 4hours  without errors or warnings is enough for stability, some people says two hour is enough too.

#715960 by pcgamerDonor (User) at 2006-10-26 04:37:05 (6 years ago) - [Report]Top

I never stress test less than 12 hours. Even if the error showed up 5 hours later, it still proves thats your CPU is not stable.

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1075792

see what stable ocings can be done with same systems (e6400/ds3/scythe ninja plus...), up to 3.600

while my cpu is oced to only to 2.660, so i dont think it is cpu sourced.

Quote:

It is recommended that the test be run for at least 6 hours to ensure stability, with 24 hours being the preferred amount of time. If Prime95 should exhibit any errors, then you know that your setup is not completely stable. This is particularly useful if you're overclocking.

Quote:

I have found that you can have a system run for 3-4 Hrs and it's relatively stable but may suffer from the odd BSOD or have the system kick you out of a game.

for me increasing the voltage a LITTLE bit gets rid of the errors]

demagh should know more about which specific voltage. For me CPU voltage did the job

i tried that but the core temps went up 5~7 degrees. so i decreased it instead. and the temps dropped 1~2 degrees.

#716901 by unknown[35823] at 2006-10-27 23:13:40 (6 years ago) - [Report]Top

@mselo
whatever pcgamer mentioned it totally true, to ensure maximum stability prime  should run for 24 hours with no errors.

if temps are turning about to be a concern of yours, may be u should check the mounting of the CPU fan or the CPU speed limit from the bios or something.

anyway, as long as u are below 65c, u are good, report back to let us know what is going on.

Increase your CPU voltage.

Hi guys just found this thread haha but anyways i was wondering if any of u could tell me the best and safest way to overclock my PC a bit,

Hardware info!:
CPU = P4(think it is P4E)S478 HT 3.0Ghz
MB = Asus P4P800E-Deluxe
Mem = 1536mb TWINMOS P3200 @ 400Mhz

Cooling parts.
Heatzink = AC silver 5
CPU = ZALMAN Fatal1ty FS-C77
and loads of extra fans

Well think thats all, just wonder what i can do in a safe way i would like to OC the CPU to about 3.4Ghz but i dont know if its safe or not =/ if any one know wwhat the best way to do it are please tell me. Tanks

hey guys I need some opinions on settings for overclocking my friend's system

his hardware is listed here:

http://service.futuremark.com/orb/resul … ID=6785713

we overclocked to 2200 mhz with FSB alone without any problems, I tried going higher on FSB alone using easy tune 5 (gigabyte mobo) but I think the PSU is crapping out, it's an antec 550w it seems to restart sometimes randomly when heat doesn't seem to be an issue at all...trying to OC at 2400 mhz will restart automatically.  We upped the voltage a tiny bit and got it to run 2300mhz but it decreased performance...

I'd like to know some good settings to start off with, I've been told (here, even) that you can overclock on stock cooling all the way up to 2.5ghz, but how the hell do you do it?  FSB alone can't possibly take it there can it?

here are the specifics I got from his shopping cart:
Antec TruePower 2.0 TP2-550 EPS12V ATX12V 550W Power Supply
OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz LGA 775 Processor
ASUS EN7950GT/HTDP/512M Geforce 7950GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP

oh and another question I have, is easytune5 really a good idea to use or should I just do everything through bios?

ahh yes after I posted that I was also googling for research, and I think my problem is definetly related with the windows based etune5

thank you very much for the links, these I can use, perfect starting points

Well I have the same cpu and mobo, same ram, similar antec PSU, but a different video card.  All Ive done is upped the RAM voltage +3, and set FSB to 400.  Im at 2.8ghz with no problems.  You should be getting much higher speeds.  You sure youe upped the DIMM voltage for the RAM?  It sounds like you havent, and that would certainly cause problems.

did you go through bios? I will try your settings next, through bios of course.

I will probably go to his house on saturday or sunday and try some of these things.

tijafasn did you change any other settings? Or just 400fsb (quite a big increase isn't it?) and ram voltage? Did you leave the memory timings at stock?

the more details you can give me the better, its good you have the same stuff, good for reference.

Leave everything at stock (or auto) except for DIMM and FSB.  Set the DIMM to +3, and the FSB to 400.  Thats all ive done in the bios.  You dont even have to go straight to 400.  You can do smaller increments if you want, but youll definately get to 400, so dont waste time with a lower FSB.  Even if you dont raise the FSB at all, you still have to raise the DIMM voltage in order for the RAM to function properly.  The OCZ platinum requires 2.1v, as opposed to the 1.8v stock on the mobo.

EDIT:  RAM timings are set to automatic by default.  If its not set to that, id advise that you do so.  Auto will make sure that they are set correctly.  Changing the timings on your own could degrade performance.

This should help.  This is my bios.  Make sure yours matches mine.

awesome tijafasn, totally awesome I will try your settings and run prime95 and memtest to see how it's working.

for referrence, can you tell me which gfx card you have and what kind of 3dmark scores you're getting?

and for the record, I am totally jealous of my friend's computer, it smokes fear like a cheap cigar at max settings at 1152 res...can't wait for the quad cores to become available so I can build myself a new computer
