If you have to ask that then I'd rather skip the whole idea

Hey guys, i have a P4 3.0GHZ and i was just about to overlock but i noticed that the CPU is 200x15 and my memory is 3200 so it's not recommended to overlock the cpu, but do you guys recommend overlocking the memory ??

Why is not recommended to o'c the cpu?? PC3200 ram is running at 200MHz...and you can overclock the cpu or ram or both together. Just pump up the FSB on your mobo and use a divider for your ram if necessary...

that's considered a good overclocking result with x800xl series, i was thinking of a vmodd when i had this card, but i am more into selling my own hardware after a while, so if u are like me, vmodd will just cut ur current price for this card into 2 equal halves.

Will be Zalman VF700Cu (12V) + revoltec BGA ram freezers good for voltmod  ? I have max 60celsious in full load.

Ok I overclocked my CPU by following this procedure

Quote:

  • Using 430 Watt Thermaltake PSU
  • Using 6600GT (so its not drawing too much power).
  • Put your SATA Harddrive into the last SATA slot on your motherboard.
  • Went to Max Memclock (MHZ) and put it to 166.
  • Increased the "HT-Link voltage control" to +0.1
  • Increased the "DDR voltage control" to +0.1
  • CPu Frequency= 267 [267x9 = 2.4GHz]
  • CPU Temp is around 27-40

  • My CPU is running Rocksolid for months. Now I want to push it to its limits. I want 2.6GHz atleast.

Now the problem is that if I go to 2.6GHz, My computer doesnt start. It goes to Windows Xp loading screen and keeps loading (I see the blue bar going and going)

What is holding down my overclock? What can I do to overclock my CPU more?

probably your memory should be configured as 133 instead of 166
and try increasing some vcore (with good cooling)

    #615898 by pcgamerDonor (User) at 2006-05-28 22:10:12 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

memory can't go under 166...pc locks down

    increasing voltage doesnt help either

i guess 2.4 is the best i can get with my setup

    #615899 by demagh (User) at 2006-05-28 22:17:51 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

try a higher divider than 133, may be 100, just for trial.

what is ur processor core? venice/winchester?

    #616019 by pcgamerDonor (User) at 2006-05-29 01:37:41 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

venice, nope lower then 166 doesnt work either...my ram is too shitty for that high overclock

    #616154 by unknown[80538] at 2006-05-29 10:20:13 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

is it just me, or doesn't that make any sense?
the ram is too shitty for that high overclock, then why wouldn't a lower divider work? I don't really get what you're trying to say.
But I think it could possibly also be the FSB limitation of your motherboard, and on what voltage did you run 2.4gHz, if it was at allready 1.5v or something, you can probably forget going up to 2.6gHz (it would possibly require 1.7v or something :\)

Edit: Just read your specs in your profile. You are running 1.6v on the processor, then you can probably forget going up that far.
I have a horribly overclocking Venice aswell (3200+) and it goes to 2.5gHz on 1.6v, but when I want to run at 2.6gHz it required 1.73v, it ran stable on watercooling, but it still remains a bit of a high voltage.
Sorry, but i think it won't work....

about memory not running at lower speeds, some memory chips are known not to run @ any other speeds but rated ones, so if u try 295x9 and divider 133 guess it'll work, but that'll be alot for ur motherboard/processor to handle

    #616360 by pcgamerDonor (User) at 2006-05-29 16:44:50 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

@ demagh: Tried that...still locks up, this time i saw artifacts i am guessing that is bad so went back to 2.4GHz :-P

My conclusion: Ram cannot handle 133 divider. The lowest it can get is 166

Hi, i have PIV 3.4 GH PRESCOT with ZALMAN 120mm fan , 2GB CORSAIR XMS twin, 600w PSU,
ATI 9800PRO 128mb. MOB SYP4I865PE Plus DR v1.0. At regular load CPU runs at 47c and at load max- 53c.I did it once by mistake and it was runing at 3.9HG, than i realise (had bad PSU) and corected it from BIOS.
My Q: what kind of benchmarks i'll have and how hot it'll run? Do you recommend it? I have it specialy
    for games(another one for work).

Just a question, tried OC my Opteron by raising the FSB from 200 to 210 it works like a charm but @ 220 it gets unstable.
My question is would it get better if I had better ram? Coz on my point of view it seems like its the ram that fucks things up.

Got no problem with heat, CPU is at 30Cº in full load and thats 2C higher than motherboard.

so I should use deviders? Any suggestion on what to try?
I don't wanna OC my cpu that much but from 1.8 to 2.2-2.5 would be nice.

of course a memory divider will help alot and i think i explained why in my guide

plus u should lower ur hyper transport multiplier, it may take u a while to read this guide, but i guarantee if u did u'll never need to ask again, unless it is something that u didn't get 100% clear from the guide "alota spelling mistakes/sentence structure error" as i didn't proof read.

Ok was no memory divider of any kind on the motherboard I had to use memory flexibility instead.
It changes the memory clocks to work more stable and in this case its at 283mhz and I find it very low.
But then again what to expect from ram named Ram-bo?

As for now it seems Ive broke the 220 barrier and can OC some more but the overall performance in 3dmark05 was not as big as I had hoped. Only got 50 more points from 1.9ghz to 2.0ghz. Gonna see this week if I can get to up to 2.2ghz or higher and hopefully better performance.
