There's more, but xtrmsystems is prolly more then you will ever need :p
BTW, would be cool if the stuff that will be posted in this thread will be turned it to some what a tutorial, links, etc.
TIP1:  If you want to max out the performance of your air cooling and even liquid etc. use Arctic Silver 5, best thermal paste you can buy, drops temps upto 15c from stock thermal pads, applying instructions are, take a rice sized mound over the cpu, take a nylon baggie and spread the thermal paste with it, then take a lint-free towel and wipte it off, then i personnaly take another small mound and put it on the center of the cpu, then taking your heatsink and swivling it into place, making sure that air bubbles are not under.
TIP2:  Don't jump to your max overclock righ away, do it slowly.
more, but i'm too tired

so, o/c'ing, very nice and all, bu i just bought an asus v9999gt 6800gt gpu and i tried to put on a FAN and HEATSINKS... but i could not get all the stock things covering rams and chipset of, they're bolted on with a screw with a strange wire under the head, does anyone now how i can remove them, safely thanks in advance

If i want to overlock my A64 san diego 3700+ with a8n-e mobo and kingston 2-2-2-5 pc3200 ram (2-2-2-5 at ddr400) what exactly should i do to get speed to around 2.6 ghz besides setting fsb to 240 and multiplier to 11?

Should i touch the voltage at all, or the HTT multiplier, or anything else, or only fsb + multiplier and leave the rest default/auto?

#341902 by unknown[30189] at 2005-08-18 02:31:39 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

i wouldnt mind overlooking my pc.

i have a Pentium 4 2.80Ghz
1GB of ram
abit sg-71 mobo

How faster will overclocking do? say i encode a movie with cce - takes 7-8hrs, how long will it take overclocked? (estimated)

i'll have a look at those sites 2moro, cheers for the links

@ddmarkm

changing the voltages usally boosts the temps by about 5 or so degrees depending on the the cooling you have on ur cpu i wouldnt recommend anything over about 1.65 volatage depending on ur powers supply

and remember every cpu is different if Bobby gets Aghz with same cpu as you doesnt mean you will be able to get the same speeds

Remember - you need good cooling! And watch CPU temperature.

I have Athlon XP-M 2500+ cooled with Zalman CNPS7000-Cu and Arctic Silver 5.

Daily use 1.83Ghz, 1.45v@ 2.4Ghz, 1.78v. Average temperature - 42*C idle, 48*C full load.

Pretty silent and fast

#346765 by unknown[80538] at 2005-08-21 15:26:34 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

then just a little question... i just read the other things about the memory speed and the fsb of your cpu... so if i take ddr400 ram and oc my 3500+ to 2.5gHz, i will only be able to do that with a divider or by raising the multiplier to 12.5 or isnīt it possible to raise your multiplier...?

#347809 by unknown[95058] at 2005-08-22 10:07:20 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

i guess its a socket A Athlon ? not 64bit

not possible to raise multiplier in any processor other than the FX-SERIES, so if ur processor got no FX-NAME, forget about it

p.s: that's for 64-bits systems only

another p.s: the 5.5,6.5,7.5,8.5 ... etc. the 0.5 multiplier thing wont be accurate with memory speed .. will edit that later in the big sticky

EDITED:
no more sticky caused an error .. may i ask if someone got it copied .. cuz i kinda lost my copy of it

In terms of the Northwood  version,
The difference between P4 2.4GHz and P4 3.4GHz is about an hour or a little more...That I'm sure off and it's a big difference, for me at least.

You should be able to get to 3.4GHz with a good mobo.

ok thanks Ganth, 3.4GHz sounds good to me.
what motherboard would you suggest i get?

i have a question about overclocking... my pc runs 24/7, how long will my pc last if i overclock and run it 24/7?

thanks

http://www.newegg.com/OldVersion/app/vi … amp;DEPA=0

Wouldn't make a difference in life span.

I've been running my 3ghz P4 northwood @ 4100 vapochilled for over a yeard and a half now. Its on pretty much 24\7. Stable as a rock aswell.

u think it is a good deal to pay 3 times the processor value cooling it?! anyway 4.1GHz is a good overclock .. but though phase cooling is for records not 24/7

#355104 by unknown[85296] at 2005-08-27 16:09:56 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

actually phase cooling is often known for it's industrial reliablity in mission critical situations making it an ideal choice for a high end cooling system for a seriously fast computer.

nice, thanks man.

i've ordered one of those Asus P4P800SE motherboard.

Can anyone please give me some info about this please, which heatsink/fans should i get and is their any particular cpu paste to use for overclocking?

thanks

#355721 by Infrag (Power User) at 2005-08-28 03:58:51 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

ninja, what kind of p4 do u have b, or c, this will make a huge impact on how far you will be able to press ur cpu, i have seen ppl hit over 3ghz with  a 2.4c prc on a stock heatsink.

Stock heatsink/fan will be ok for now.  Just get thermal paste.
You should be able to get close to 3.2GHz with stock Intel HSF as long as you have a "decent" case.

Thermal paste
http://www.newegg.com/OldVersion/app/Vi … amp;depa=0

Zalman (only if you want to go more extreme meaning 3.3GHz+)
http://www.newegg.com/OldVersion/app/Vi … amp;depa=0

Keep in mind that not every CPU is the same.  Most people get between 3.2GHz-3.4GHz on a 2.4C with a "decent" case using stock HSF.

"decent" means good airflow, no dangling wires, etc...

thanks for all the help :thankyou:

I dont know what cpu i have but i used cpuz for this screenshot:

i'll order one of those Zalman hs aswell, and that thermal paste.

Hope it doesnt blow up, lol

Gah...You have the crappy 400mhz FSB version.
