Back in the TorrentBits days I ran BitsBot, which was a Jabber bot notifying users when new torrents became available. The point was that you could pre-define search terms so that you would only be notified about torrents you are interested in.
Since I noticed TorrentBytes finally have got a bots.php file now, I have brought BitsBot back. To use it, add bitsbot@jabber.org to your roster/contacts, and you should get a welcome greeting. Type "help" for a list of the commands. You want to add notifications. For instance, if you're a fan of The Daily Show like me, you could send "notify the.daily.show" to the bot, and every time a new torrent comes out with a name matching "the.daily.show", the bot will send you a message. You can add as many notifications as you want.
The bot appears to work after I adapted it for TorrentBytes, but if there are any problems, feel free to contact me (either in this thread or at jabber, haakon@jabber.org).

Google uses a private Jabber network. You can only connect to other Google users through it. Get another Jabbre account on some other public server: http://www.jabber.org/network/

Oh, ok! Didn't know that. Well i registered at myjabber.net instead but i got the same problem searching for bitsbot@jabber.org. It searches like forever...
Should i search in JID or in email? Neither of them work though

I might also make a MSN bot when I have some time, now that bots.php is there. Not a lot of people uses Jabber.
That would be sweet

Guys, thanks for your help. It does work now. Must been backlogged or something. When i checked it this morning i had got a welcome message.
I'm using miranda for MSN and ICQ, and didn't want to add another client just for jabber.
Now i have MSN, ICQ and JABBER in the same client. Smooth!
Thanks

" Gaim is a multi-protocol instant messaging (IM) client for Linux, BSD, MacOS X, and Windows. It is compatible with AIM and ICQ (Oscar protocol), MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, SILC, GroupWise Messenger, and Zephyr networks.
Gaim users can log in to multiple accounts on multiple IM networks simultaneously. This means that you can be chatting with friends on AOL Instant Messenger, talking to a friend on Yahoo Messenger, and sitting in an IRC channel all at the same time.
Gaim supports many features of the various networks, such as file transfer, away messages, typing notification, and MSN window closing notification. It also goes beyond that and provides many unique features. A few popular features are Buddy Pounces, which give the ability to notify you, send a message, play a sound, or run a program when a specific buddy goes away, signs online, or returns from idle; and plugins, consisting of text replacement, a buddy ticker, extended message notification, iconify on away, spell checking, tabbed conversations, and more. I use Psi myself, a very comfortable Jabber client. I cannot stand Gaim, but I'm glad people choose it over non-free alternatives

Any chance you could put this up on the google Talk network as well (server gmail.com). Most of my friends use this network and I think many people prefere this from the public jabber?

Google Talk, as you know, is a Jabber server/client. As soon as google opens up server-to-server (which I seriously hope they will eventually), you'll be able to use the bot. Until then, I don't think I will bother, since I don't use Google Talk myself
Service update: torrentbytes.net/bots.php is broken today, which crashes my bot. There are several weirdnesses in bots.php (for instance, the line beginning with "How.I.Met.Your.Mother.S01E07.HDTV.XviD-TCM"). Since this is probably a passing thing, I'll just keep the bot offline. If this will be a regular thing I'm afraid the bot will stay offline since I don't have time to code around all kinds of special cases (and it's no fun either). We'll see.
Service update 2: the above seems to have been just a one-time occurance, so the bot has been up mostly, and I'm keeping it up. If you have any problems with it, please ask in this thread.
