Something Saw-esque? Some crazy (or very sensible) psychopath who thinks they can "Straighten out" all the people on the plane who don't value life or something along the lines? With the Innocent ones being "kidnapped" and kept safe. That's how the kid gets taken and There was an attempt to take Claire and her baby in Season 1. And those who need to be taught a lesson are left behind. Because things seem to fit too perfectly.
