This is for all the guys in the "Patching Windows XP from now on" topic.

But I thought, I’ll put it here because otherwise new people would have to scroll down half a topic before finding this fix and be able to download updates normally.

Anyways I have tried this fix and it works like a charm. And besides that it’s much easier than the earlier released javascript ‘hack’.

AND IT'S NOT ILLEGAL BECAUSE YOU SIMPLY TURN OFF THE ADD-ON BECAUSE YOU DON'T WANT MICROSOFT KNOWING YOU COMPUTER'S INFO, REGARDLESS OF THE FACT OF HAVING A LEGAL OR ILLEGAL PRODUCT KEY.
AND TURNING OFF PROGRAMS ON YOUR COMPUTER IS IN YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS.

Just download this file and follow the instructions. And enjoy.

They have updated the windows update active x control and this  no longer works.

ANyone know whats next?

you need adobe acrobat reader to read pdf. or some other program that read those files.

donno but still works for me...
otheerwise try first going to the windows update page and than disabling the add-on and then closing all instances of internet explorer.

otherwise it probably still works for me because the old add-on was disabled and didn't download the new add--on duno for sure try again still working for me.

Weirdness
no go for me.

i get this:

[Error number: 0x8DDD0018]
  The site cannot continue because one or more of these Windows services is not running:

Automatic Updates (allows the site to find, download and install high-priority updates for your computer)
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) (helps updates download more quickly and without problems if the download process is interrupted)
Event Log (keeps a record of updating activities to help with troubleshooting, if needed)
To make sure these services are running:
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Type services.msc and then click OK.
3. In the list of services, double-click on Automatic Updates and then click Properties.
4. In the Startup type list, select Automatic and click Apply.
5. Verify that the Service status is started, if the Service Status is Stopped click on the Start Button.
6. In the list of services, double-click on Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) and then click Properties.
7. In the Startup type list, select Manual and click Apply.
8. Verify that the Service status is started, If the Service Status is Stopped click on the Start Button.
9. In the list of services, double-click on Event Log and then click Properties.
10. In the Startup type list, select Automatic and click Apply.
11. Verify that the Service status is started, If the Service Status is Stopped click on the Start Button.
If this does not resolve the problem you may request help from one of the following resources.

all the above services are running the only thing that isn't running is teh wga active x control, which is disabled.

i had disabled the security centre because it was annoying me, but even re-enalbled i get this issue.

@Kano yeah right on

if u read the Patching Windows XP from now on there is 4 way's (guess 1 dont work now)
the data one worns with any 640 serial or vlk i guess (installed and updated xp with software/hardware downloads yesterday on a pc)

there is a Windows.Genuine.Advantage.and.Javascript.Workaround.REPACK.iNTERNAL-DS9 that came out yesterday

Just to update.

I used the javascript hack and still got htis error.

Solution: Automatic updates Must not only be started as a service, it must also be set to be automatic, not manual.

security centre service is set to manual but not running.

So, i don't know if diabpling the control and having automatic updates set to started and automatic would have been enough, or if i needed the javasctipt hack as well. Either way it works for me again.

Stupid microsoft. One day i think i'll buy this software jsut so i can call and complain

nice man, that's ncie so still working, but i have disabled security center as well, it's so feraking annoyin thing you know.
anywyas if other guys have any problem please talk about it here so we can make maybe a next version of this pdf file with mroe instructions and put it here again.

i did what someone said in the comments for that torrent and i think it has worked

all updates run fine here, i just cancelled the validation tool download.

not causing any isues and no cracks needed

Haven't done an update for ages but this is so easy to do! :-P :thumbsup: I have to close internet explorer and then load it up again to get rid of the error mentioned above but after that it worked a treat. :beer2:
