As people are using the AVI2DVD guide here they might have a 2CD XviD they've downloaded that they want to convert, so here's how you join them to make the whole process easier.

Required apps

VirtualDub

Open up VDub and choose File -> Open video file and open the first part of your movie (CD1). If you get an error like this just press No.

Next, choose File -> Append Segment and browse to the second part of your movie (CD2). Now choose Video -> Direct Stream Copy as you aren't gonna reencode anything. Now you just have to choose File -> Save As, choose where you want to save it and hit Save. You'll then end up with a joined file.

Note: Many groups use some overlapping when they cut their AVIs, if you want to be really precise you need to cut a few seconds of the second file. I don't know if this is normal anymore for XviDs but atleast for VCDs and SVCDs it's common.

hi!
when i get this message window, i only have the option to press "ok", not "yes" or "no".
i tried it with virtualdub 1.5.10 and 1.6.7.
can you tell me which version you are using?

thanks!!

DKedit: I am going to assume its the version he give on the link above which is VirtualDub and the link is-> hxxp://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/
But you might want to wait for negge answer or just download the one from the link I posted.

If you're having trouble, try using VirtualDub MP3 Freeze

Sorry actually I use VdubMod but it shouldn't make any difference in this process. You can get it here.

No you need to use another method for splitting AVIs, this is just joining.

So what should I do when I get the Error about the two files having different bitrates (due to vbr?) while appending files?

click no

#276975 by VeryBadGuyDonor (Mad Ultra Mod) at 2005-07-03 16:01:47 (8 years ago) - [Report]Top

that is not an option

I open one avi go to the end of the file and select append avi..then I open the second file and it refuses to append the file because the audio rates are different on both files. There is no Yes or No option..

You can't use VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod if it comes up with this error - you have to use VirtualDub MP3 Freeze (tredici provided a link to it higher up), otherwise it will be out of sync.

VirtualDub or Mod does not seem to be able to join films which use MP3, so just use mp3 freeze in those situations. As most 2CD films have AC3 anyway, you won't come across this very often.

I join all my 2CD movies together as i'm a bit of a perfection and occassionally VirtualDub has problems with a few movies i try and join - at the join there is a beep and the sound suddenly drops very low. I use another program to join these ones - if you come across the same prob just post in this thread and explain what program to use.

No you can join AVIs with MP3 without any problems, I've done it, it works perfectly well, when it asks about correcting the audio header when you open the first file just click No and it will perfectly append the second file.

Do your 2 files have the same bitrate? If one has 192kbps MP3 and the other has 128kbps then you can't join them.

No no. I usually have no problems joining avi files.
But with Sin City apparently Cd1 adn Cd2 have two different sample rates..both VBR and slightly different.

Didn't notice this guide was VirtualDub only. PM'ed VeryBadGuy with info about another joiner. ;-)

Demux the audio and uncompress it to .WAV (do it for both CDs), then use VdubMod to mux the new .WAV and the video back together and finally join them. That should do the trick. You can decompress the audio with BeSweet.

I figured I would have to do that
A lot more work..but better than the alternative of having a screwed up video/audio file

Nah it's not that much work, should take 15 minutes or something like that.

check it out at -> hxxp://www.softlab.ece.ntua.gr/~sivann/pub/Uploaded/tut.avi (Win98), may be diffrent in newer windows.

Ok, here's the deal, this will work if you put cd1 and cd2 from a realease and want a big one, but i dont recommend anyone doing this if the 1.avi and 2.avi is from diffrent realease.. (frame raw copy)

Yeah and the main purpose for this guide is to join 2 CD rips you get from the internet.

Ok negge..one last question
I have two avi files..both same bit rate etc...so joining them in virtuadub is no problem....my question is that these two files both have .srt files of their own..is there any way to join the .srt files together?

thanks for all the information..it has been very useful

Subtitle Workshop can join subtitles. It should be pretty easy to use. Otherwise if the program doesn't work for you try searching for "join subtitles" on Google, that gave me that result. Never joined any subs myself.
