Well, when you solder circuitboards there is always a risk of frying something but it in most cases I think failure is a result of bad soldering or static electricy not the chip. If you are thinking about using a solderless installation then there is little chance of frying the xbox, but there is also less chance of actually getting the xbox to work with the chip. Anyway, you should NOT modify your xbox unless you can afford to buy a new one as this is risky(but quite easy) and your warranty will ofcourse be void.

* Another XBOX ISO utility: MooGUI.
I used to use Qwix exclusively, but I find this better. You use the Xbox files and a layout file to create a burnt copy that should have the files on the DVD in the exact same order as the original for faster loading and a more quiet operation (think KotOR2 with 20,000 files in a specific order).
Just one note on MooGUI - I find you can end up with coasters using the ISO padding option. This might be a media issue though, and expensive, high-quality DVD-R's may not have this problem (haven't wanted to test it myself).
there is also a chip called the spider that is solderless with 1.6/1.6b
everything else has to be soldered. Read up at xbox-scene before buying a chip or maybe think about having it professionally installed by one of the retailers that are shown at xbox-scene

Im a newbie to xbox modding. I have been considering it getting my box modded by someone but I have questions have several questions I need help with b4 a do it. Any help would be great.
I dont know what chip will be installed. I do know that a 120g wd hd will be installed.
Question is......
Am I still able to go on xbox live with a modded xbox?
Can I use copied or burnt discs using the xbox on live?
Can the mod chip be disabled so I can go on live?
Are there any chips that will allow me to do these things?

I ordered a modchip+xbox this week. But is was wondering about the games i see here, most of them have "USA" in their title. Does this mean it is an NTSC game? Or can i play it on a pal tv and is this "usa" just the region?
#20064 by unknown[17618] at 2005-01-12 01:17:15 (8 years ago) - [Report]
You often see both PAL and USA (NTSC) releases for Xbox games. It might just be coincidence or what the uploaders have access to that you're only really seeing USA at the moment.
The Xbox itself can play the game when it's chipped. It just depends on the TV and if it can display NTSC signal. I have two tv's one 5 years old and another 1.5-2 years old and both of them can display NTSC signals fine, so if your tv was made in the past could years, it should be fine. And hey, if not, it's just a bit of bandwidth, nothing serious.

I need help with modding my xbox, is there a modchip for versions for 1.6? Non-solderless cause I have never done any sort of modding EVER! Any help and links to the non-solder mod chips for the 1.6 would be Great.
My friend told me to get the Xecutor 3 but I don't know if they have a non-solderless adapter for it

crystal xbox is normally 1.6 or 1.6b
Nope, Crystal is as far as I know always 1.4 which is a good thing, as it's much harder to chip 1.6 boxes but to be sure check this awesome table made by xbox-linux:

Not with the chip active but most chips can be temporaly disabled and therefore running the xbox as it's not modded which means you can play Live
Urgeoverkill wrote:

No, as you only can play live with orginal games and chip disabled, there are a few other online services for Xbox that does support modded boxes though, like xbconnect and xlink kai, google or check xbox-scene

Pretty much all of the latest generation ones
www.xbox-scene.com is the ultimate xbox modding resource, there's nothing and then I really mean nothing you can't get an answer for there.
A tip if you don't want to solder and stuff you can always check if ther's a shop nearby that installs modchips in xboxes, atleast here in sweden the chipping isn't illegal it's the replacing of microsofts dashboard that is, and that isn't hard

X3 does have a solderless adapter, but I'm not sure if it works on 1.6. I remember hearing about one modchip that said it had a 1.6 solderless adapter.. Spider chip or something like that? I'm sure you could find it on www.xbox-scene.com.
If you'd prefer an X3 though, you could buy it and then find someone who's knowledgable in Xbox mod installs to install it for you. It might cost a bit overall though. Alternatively, check here for a guide to installing an X3 on a 1.6 Xbox and see if you think you could handle the soldering for yourself.
