I have a function request that I think would be invaluable, and I'm sure others would agree. Would it be possible to insert a function (it could be an option, so you can turn it on and off) that when selected will only download ONE instance of each of your filters per day?
SOOOO many times I come home and am stuck with 2 or 3 copies of the same file. Sometimes a group releases a PROPER or whatever and 2 files are uploaded.
I realise this can sometimes be a good thing, for example if the first upload is NUKED or whatever, which is why this feature could be an option so people can choose to enable it or not.
I know you're going to say 'read the instructions, why did I even bother making those instructions' and then tell me to use more filters (eg. to filter out all PROPER releases), but sometimes its not as simple as that what with all the groups rushing to release the same file. Sometimes the same file is released by two different groups (happened today with Invasion and the other day with My Name Is Earl).
This feature would be invaluable for users like me who have a fixed quota each month.
I assume (although I admit I don't really know) you could just insert a line of code that says "when this filter is activated, switch it to ignore", or whatever. That would do the trick
Thanks for your time, and thanks for your program, it's most useful, especially for those of us, like me, in different countries who are at work when these files are uploaded

What about porting it to *nix systems as well?

i don't get half the stuff i want to have. for example the proggy didn't download Everybody hates Chris today

The simplest way is to create a filter called:
Everybody AND hates AND chris - contains - tv/xvid - download. That's it. Of course then the problem is it'll download every version of that file uploaded.
You can also add AND s01e##, but the annoying thing is (and it happened today with Joey) is that some groups insist on labeling it 1x02 or 2x01 instead of s01e02 so your filter doesn't pick it up. I suppose we'll have to create two filters with both versions, but why the groups can't all stick to the same format I don't know
EDIT: ACtually it'd be really good to have an OR function as well, so you could create a filter like:
i certainly wont be porting it to another OS, but theres nothing stopping someone from taking the concept and re-writing it.
as for the only use filter once feature, i dont think its going to be very usefull and will certainly complicate things. the most common reason for downloading two torrents for the same show is that the uploader messes up with the first torrent, deletes it, and re-uploads. so the first torrent you download wont start, but the second will. so this feature would actually stop you from getting the working torrent.

theres no need to put AND operators inbetween those particular keywords, you will get same same result without.
and the OR operator would be a LOT of work, when you can just add another filter.
@total: if you post your filters maybe i can tell you why you arent getting half your shows. when set-up correctly, tbnotify never misses a show.

Post your notify config.
I had the same problem as you.
I had Notify on Upload of "certian categories"
then I had my download if name matches "namehere" in TV/XViD
And it didnt download. Its in the help guide. Its due to priorities
Make sure the download filters are first. But if you have an ignore, make it before the downloads. And then have the Notify ones.
For example
If torrent contains "HR HDTV" in TV/XviD -> Ignore
If Torrent contains "Everybody hates chris" in TV/XviD -> Download
If torrent is in category "TV/XviD, Games, Apps" -> Notify.
Then any release of Everybody hates chris in HR HDTV wont download but every other version will.
And TBNotify will only show you releases in Categories in TV/XviD, Games, and Apps. Nothing else will pop up.
Also: If you have torrent download filters as Exactly Matches "Everybody Hates Chris S##E##-*" in TV/XviD.... It will download ONLY Everybody hates chris any season and any episode, by whatever group. So it there is a proper or repack, it wont download.
Hope this helped.
@Twiglet - If I got something wrong, correct me Its 8am, im at school and im tired (I only have 1 class a day 2nd period so I have 1st period free then I get to go home )
And I have a new feature Idea:
Add a filter option so that if a upload is a Proper or repack, it will download that one instead of the original. And if a torrent gets nuked, have an option not to download, you cant add that to filters because when TBNotify sees the torrent, it doesnt read nuked parts. Ive tried adding If torrent contains "Nuked" in any -> Ignore. But even if TBNotify reads the new torrents AFTER it gets nuked on the site (Name changed) then it still downloads torrent.
Hope you can add these in

I find it to be the other way around unfortunately. When a torrent is uploaded, and my client starts to download it, then the uploader realises the screw up and either removes the first torrent or just leaves it running then ups the new torrent, the client (Azureus) will NOT accept the new version of the torrent as it still sees the first running (or stopped, whatever, the data is already there) and consequently the new version just sits in the client with an error message until you get home to sort it out.
Next time it happens I'll record the error message and upload a screenie.
Add a filter option so that if a upload is a Proper or repack, it will download that one instead of the original.
" it will download that one instead of the original." that would only be possible if the repack were uploaded before the original. which would never happen.
unless both torrents (repack and original) are uploaded with 10 minutes (or whatever your check interval is) of each other (unlikely), then the original will be launched in your client, and there is nothing tbnotify can do about it if a repack comes along later.
as for the nuked thing, again this is only possible if the torrent is "nuked" within 10 minutes (or whatever your check interval is) of being uploaded. so a lot will be downloaded anyway.

no need i believe you. but it doesnt change the fact that i think the feature would be pretty pointless, and i havent really got time to add such a thing.

How about setting a interval in the torrent, let's say 1 hour. When the first torrent that matches the filter is uploaded the clock begins ticking, after 1 hour it downloads the latest torrent matching the filter... It's the only solution I can think of for this "major problem""
I've been using TBNotify for a while now and I have absolutly no problems The only suggestion I have is a more torrentbytes.net based UI (like the real HTML pages), but necessary? Nope, will use it anyway.

Thats a great idea! I love it! :p
This would be a good method. And it should also check for example when you turn the computer on and it checks if there are two of the same release except one has PROPER or NUKED on it. It will download the better one.
Great program! I once wrote something similar in Java but I never figured out how to access all the different categories.
Anyway to the point.
I found that sending the link to the default browser is useless because ALL browsers today don't allow you to download and execute any files. For example Firefox ironically has an option to "do this automatically everytime..." but it doesn't do it because its a security risk (I have checked the download options etc, it won't work without a prompt). IE is out of the question, it doesn't support this feature and if it did it would be a ticking time bomb (i.e if someone decides to use IE for normal browsing! ). Unfortunatley it is 100% more convenient for me to use BitComet.
Question:
Are there any plugins or browsers that actually support downloading files without a stupid prompt?
If not, Solution:
BitComet can be run using the command line, so it is fairly easy to implement a BitComet or Azureus option by the browsers.
For me this program is only really useful if it extends into a powerful client such as BitComet or Azureus, and up till now I have been browsing the forums here and playing with different configs, with no luck.
I hope someone has a similar problem with a solution! I don't want to come home to a spam of download prompts!
ok i have pm'd you instructions on how to get a debug build set up.
next time you feel something should have been downloaded, just email me the Debug Info.
cheers

No, it's a horrible idea I always dl the rls as soon as it's upped, because that way you get lots of seeding time in, and it gets finished sooner.
The best case scenario would be if Az could stop dling the nuked rls and download the proper as soon as it's released - but that's an impossible feature.
I don't think it's really that big of a problem if you dl two copies of a rls... just delete the nuked one.
