Thats one way of doing it, but it aint a accurate way of doing it.
i just open up gspot and look at the FAR colum, ur numbers there.

ninja909 i dunno if this helps but i had some troubles with audio at
first, so i just imported  the bb_muxed_00 file into DVDLab then it demuxed it
into audio and video, worked a charm for me.

thanks for that, but my MPlex_Muxed_File00 file has slow audio, so it will be the same if i author it again.

What i done is re-encoded the source audio using besweet and then used dvdlab to author... that dont make much sense though as AVI2SVCD uses besweet for audio conversions

@phixion: if u meen burning, use nero.

I've been using the retail version of CCE v2.67.0.27, and it's been working great (so far ), although I first tried the latest verion (v2.72 or something), which gave me errors. So, along with negge's recomendation of v2.50 i'd suggest people try this version if their having trouble with CCE.

I've been on vacation that's why no questions have been answered lately...

Phixion wrote:

I have a few questions:

1: I keep getting sync issues when its encoding - any ideas?
2: How do i find whether to encode with the sound from the xvid or do it seperate?
3: What aspect ratio should I be using? Say the xvid is in widescreen, should I choose to encode it in widescreen or in normal 4:3.
4: Which files do I need to put on the dvd? Once its encoded I have quite a few files.

Cheers

1. I've never gotten any sync issues myself so I have no idea how to get rid of them. Maybe something is wrong with the muxer, try authoring it using the .MPV and .MPA/AC3 files and see for yourself.

2. Under the Conversion tab there's a list called Selected Audiotracks, if it says AC3 there you can keep it, if it says MPA you need to convert it.

3. Use the preview function to determine what's the best setting to use, mostly I use Anamorphic for widescreen movies but sometimes it goes wrong.

4. You can delete all files EXCEPT Encoded_Video_PAL.MPV (could say NTSC too) and Encoded_Audio.MP2, those 2 are the files you'll need when authoring it.

Phixion wrote:

This guide is great... but what about copying the files to dvd? what program should I be using?

I recommend DVD-Lab.

It seems like many people are getting sync problems on their final output. If the problems occur on the bbMPEG_Muxed_File_00.mpg or whatever it's called, try authoring the elementary streams (the .MPV and .MPA) and see if the sync issues are still there.

No everything seems fine. Could you post the settings on your Encoder tab too (or send it via PM), might be that some settings there are bad, especially if you use One-pass VBR which can 'cause both under- and oversized output.

You're supposed to delete all files except Encoded_Video_PAL/NTSC_CCE.MPV and Encoded_Audio_1.mp2. Then you just have to author a DVD with your favorite DVD author using those files.

#304770 by unknown[30189] at 2005-07-19 03:58:52 (8 years ago) - [Report]Top

dvd2svcd authors it for you, well mine does :-/

Under "DVD IMAGE" tab, theres a "Movie Title" bit, fill that in with whatever and it will create the vob's for you.

Thats if you just want chapters and no menu, if you dont fill in the movie title bits... it knows not to author it.

Then simply burn the vobs/image to disc

If you want it not to author anything and just leave all files there for you then you're supposed to choose No images on the DVD image tab.

You must have set up the bitrate settings wrong or you did something wrong when you got the number 5.2GB (only files you're supposed to count is the .MPV and the .MPA file).

Dunno bout it, quite confused. I burned them anyway and it works like a charm. The .ifo and .vob files I created were only around 3,2gig. Weird. It all worked out good. Thanks.

You must have screwed up some settings if you only got a 3.2GB output... But the important thing is that it works

Ok.. I have carefully compared the AR of my Xvid movies to the possible output ARs, and none of them are right.  When comparing screens from the preview and the movie in Xvid, it's very easy to tell the preview is not the same.  I've tried this with 3 different *.avi movies, so it's not just a fluke with one having an odd AR.

Is there any way to specify the AR more exactly?  I hate watching movie with long-faced people.

#308164 by unknown[30189] at 2005-07-21 00:12:26 (8 years ago) - [Report]Top

@sapling ... run the avi through gspot or any other programs that gives you the resolution.

say file a is 540x378 .... get a caculator and divide those numbers (540/378), it should be 1.42
say file b is 650x340... = 1.91 (650/340)

If your number is less than 1.78 you should encode it as 4:3.
If your number is above 1.78 you should encode it as 16:9.

I use this method all the time and no tall, skinny, short and fat people are in my movies

Yes there is, you can edit the AVS script manually by choosing Edit as a part of video encoding under the Frameserver tab. Although you need to know what to fill in there, but you can get it look just like your source even though the source has an uncommon AR.

As a simpleton, what EXACTLY do i do once ive got these two files files isolated. Do i use nero and burn it as a data disc?? I'm really confused...sorry
....and what exactly is a DVD author?

thanx, this stuff has been really helpful!

okay people I have read everything and tried all those things but after a while I am still stuck with the 1 click programs just because programs like CCE VirtualDub etc give all kinda stupid errors about nothing so my question is what is wrong with:
VSO XvidtoDvd (for xvid to dvd) only problem is no subtitles can be done)
and for copying dvd's:
1 click dvd copy

just please explain to me why you all prefer the CCE way...

You have to author a DVD using those files. A DVD author is a program that puts video and audio (and subtitle) files together into VOB files that then can be burned with Nero for example. There are many many DVD authors out there, if you want to stay as simple as possible use IfoEdit or Muxman, if you want a little lame menu you could try TMPGEnc DVD Author, if you want to be pretty advanced and make (IMO) pretty nice menus, try using DVD-Lab Pro.

The reason why many people prefer and recommend using CCE for all MPEG encoding is because it is way better than all other software encoders that exist. Neither TMPGEnc or Canopus Procoder can achieve as good quality as CCE. And the one-click encoders are the worst encoders which gives the worst result of all, that's why many people stay away from those (including me). And the reason CCE gives you all kinds of errors is probably either 'cause something is wrong with your settings or that you have a bad version of it (many versions don't work with certain programs). If VirtualDub gives you errors something is probably wrong with the AVS script, you'll see if something is wrong if you see a red message while previewing the output in DVD2SVCD. But it could be many other reasons aswell, post them here and maybe someone of us will sort it out for you.

I have a huge problem and im tearing my hair out.

Everytime i convert ntsc to pal i end up with slow voices, so i re-encode the audio to the same fps as the video and its out of sync.

---------------------------------------------------------
Ok, il give as much info as i can, i need help bigtime :-/

My avi file's are "American.Beauty.1999.WS.DVDRip.XviD.AC3.iNTERNAL-EwDp" (2 avi's)

CD1 Video File Information
Frame Size: 640x256 29.970fps
Length: 96666 frames (53:45.42)
Codec: Xvid Mpeg-4
Data Rate: 1363kbps

CD1 Audio File Information
Sampling Rate: 48000Hz
Channels: 6 (stereo)
Compression: AC-3 ACM Decompressor
Length: 180623824 samples (53:45.42)
Data Rate: 448kbps

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD2 Video File Information
Frame Size: 640x256 29.970fps
Length: 122301 frames (01:08:00.78)
Codec: Xvid Mpeg-4
Data Rate: 983kbps

CD2 Audio File Information
Sampling Rate: 48000Hz
Channels: 6 (stereo)
Compression: AC-3 ACM Decompressor
Length: 227945008 samples (01:07:50.44)
Data Rate: 448kbps

----------------------------------------------------------------
I opened up CD1 with virtual dub, appended CD2, set the video + audio to direct stream copy and saved the 2 avi's as 1 file. (my joined file was perfect, no out of sync & vdub gave no error's what so ever)

----------------------------------------------------------------

I then opened up svcd2dvd.... Here are the settings i chose....

----Conversion Tab
NTSC TO PAL Ticked
aspect ratio out - Anamorphic (no borders, encoded as 16:9
No Deinterlacing

---Audio Tab
autodetect Azid Gain (2 pass) TICKED
output mode - Stereo
Audio 1 Bitrate 192
AVI AUDIO EXTRACTION - VFW (audio <2GB)

---Frameserver tab
Add resampleaudio - ticked
Resize to DVD 720x480
No editing

---Enocoder tab
VBR 4pass - CCE 2.5

-------------------------------------------------------------
After all that has finished i end up with the audio being really slow, I've tried using other programs for the audio, like besweet, softencode, goldwave etc... Either the audio comes out slow or its out of sync.
I know that if u change the source from ntsc to pal that u have to "stretch the audio" to match the video, but still no luck.

What am i doing wrong? ... i just cant fiquire it out :-/

Any help appreciated... ANY!!!! thanks

EDIT.... forgot to mention also that i've tried using the original ac3 stream, but still out of sync!

#313110 by negge (Power User) at 2005-07-23 23:27:07 (8 years ago) - [Report]Top

Ninja909 did you try authoring the elementary streams it gave you? You didn't mention anything about that. I always tick that NTSC to PAL box and I have never gotten any sync problems or slow voices and I never have to do any additional audio encoding.

#313115 by unknown[30189] at 2005-07-23 23:30:27 (8 years ago) - [Report]Top

yes mate, i tried authoring,

dvd2svcd gives u 2 audio files.... extracted audio and encoded_audio.

Extracted audio is fine, no slowness, but its not dvd compliant. lol

Encoded_audio is slow but that is dvd compliant.
lol, i cant win

i dont know if this helps, but my dvd2svcd is version 1.2.2 build 3

Edit.... come to think of it, i've never had trouble before doing ntsc>pal, do u think its my pc or some sort of malfunction?
