Many users have been asking the question how do I convert XviD to DVD, and it's getting boring giving the same answer all the time. This is a tutorial on how to convert XviD/DivX/AVI to DVD using DVD2SVCD, CCE and some DVD author.
Required apps
DVD2SVCD CinemaCraft Encoder
Some DVD author (you may use any)
Step 1: Configuring all the settings
When you install DVD2SVCD you get a bunch of other applications like AviSynth, VStrip, BeSweet etc. so you don't have to get anything else. Now let's start with all the settings. Open up DVD2SVCD and ignore the pop-up message saying you should use the default settings if this is the first time you use the app.
Then open the Misc tab. In the Input file type select AVI and in Output file type select DVD. It should look like this:
Then click on the Default Output Folder button and choose Set default output folder. Browse to any folder you want, just make sure it has enough free disc space (around 5GB should be enough). Also set the DVD2SVCD Level to Advanced, some necessary features may be prohibited if you use Normal mode.
Now head over to the Conversion tab.
To the right in the AVI File field there's a browse button, click it and browse to the AVI you want to convert. Next, click the Go! button and then choose Preview video (still picture). This will show you how the final video will look. If you're video somehow is interlaced (only occurs on nuked releases), you can choose to Deinterlace it. You can do that by choosing one of the deinterlace methods from the Deinterlace dropdown menu (I've never had to use deinterlacing on AVI source). One thing you need to worry about here is the aspect ratio. Somehow it gets the AR settings wrong when you load your AVI, so you'll need to change between the 3 formats in order to get the desired aspect ratio. Just remember how the video should look and choose the correct AR settings.
You'll also see that under Selected Audiotracks there's now one track, and it says which format it is in. Depending on the format we maybe don't have to reencode the audio (e.g if the source is AC3). As far as I know there's no use in specifying which language the track is in (if it's AC3 it may be set to the correct language but not on MP3 sound).
Note: You need to specify the path to your encoder before you open your source file in the Conversion tab, you specify the path in the Encoder tab.
Now it's time to set up the Audio settings. Go to the Audio tab and have a look at it.
If your source was AC3 then just check Do not convert audio (use source audio). What is does is pretty selfexplaning. However if your source is MP3 (which is quite likely), you'll need to reencode it to MP2 (of course you could reencode it to AC3 too but this program doesn't support that). I don't think you'll need to change any settings here, just make sure Stereo is selected under Output mode. Choose whatever bitrate you want, although 224 is pretty minimum.
Next tab to go to is the Encoder tab.
Here you can choose between 4 encoders, although it's recommended that you use Cinema Craft Encoder. Specify the path to the encoder and then there's only one setting you may have to change, the Video encoding mode. If you're movie is short (less or equal than 90 minutes), you can safely use CBR without loosing any quality compared to VBR. If your movie is longer than that I recommend using VBR. In the Number of passes field enter how many passes it should encode. 3 is enough in almost every case, choose 4 or 5 if you want to but IMO this is quite unnecessary as the source isn't of top quality.
Now it's time to setup the Bitrate. Go to the Bitrate tab.
Max. : Should be set to 9400 for maximum quality.
Min. : Should be set to 0 (300 or 500 is also OK but I don't see why not to use 0)
Min avg. : Set it to anything, it isn't too important for this kind of conversion.
Max avg. : Set it high, like Min avg. it isn't too important for this kind of conversion.
CD Size: This is the most important one. Using a too high number here will result in oversized movies. The default of 4464 MB should be fine, I've set it to 4450 to be on the safe side.
Now to the last tab, the DVD Image tab.
As DVD2SVCD only supports Sonic Scenarist and DVD Author as authoring programs you may want to choose No Images. This will able you to import all files to your favorite authoring program and make a nice little menu there. However if you have Scenarist (2.7) and want DVD2SVCD to author it automatically for you, all you need to do is enter all the info in the fields and choose how many chapter points you want to add.
The following tabs don't need to be touched:
Finalize
About
Log
AVI Hints
Pulldown (PAL users NEVER even have to look at this tab)
Subtitles
Step 2: Hitting the Go! button
Now that you have all settings configured correctly, all you need to do is go to the Conversion tab and hit Go! and then Start conversion. The log will then open and you can see what is going on at the moment. After the conversion has finished it'll say Conversion done!.
This guide may seem very complicated but once you've configured everything once you don't have to touch almost anything. And once you start to know what all the settings do you don't need any guides like this anymore.
A thing that seems to happen to many users is bad sync on your final multiplexed movie. This could be due to bad muxing, so if you get desynced movies, try using the .MPV and .MPA/AC3 when you do the authoring. The audio should be synced then, 'cause no audio delay correction is made when BeSweet converts the audio to MP2 and the video always remains the same as the source (only in different format). If you still have sync problems it might be that your sources is screwed up aswell or some codec problems (quite unlikely). Always check your source before you start yapping about the program makes the movies out of sync.
and you might want to check out this tutorial at the link posted below and this should give you a better understanding and how to choose the right bit rate for a certain file.
hey there is a very much easier way to do this, you can just download nero vision xpress very step by step from there and you burn it on a dvd
Yeah - but did you notice the title of this post was (the proper way)???
Every man and his dog can do crappy conversions with Nero, DVD Santa, WinAVI etc, etc, etc.

if you don't like the way this program works and like another . do a tutorial on the one you like . don't post about other programs here. stay on topic.

gday, havn some real problems with this,
ive got about 4 different versions of CCE now and each seem to have their own faults
with 2.70 i get a windows "this program encountered an error" problem
with 2.50 i get a little blue box in the bottom right corner and no audio
and another says that its not a valid win32 application on installation.
when i use DVD2SVCD it seems to miss the audio extraction, like BeSweet doesnt come up
it says "audio extraction complete" after about 4 seconds
im runin window XP,
1.6GHz
512Ram,
any suggestions?
Edit: okay i found a workin version of CCE, only problem now is that it still doesnt seem to convert
the audio?

Hehe, this might sound stupid but how am I going to burn these files to dvd?
By following the tutorial I managed to get like twenty files from single avi file and now i donīt know which files to burn and how...
DVD2SVCD produces a lot of files yes, most of them are plain unnecessary when the conversion has finished. The only files you'll need are the .MPV file and the .MPA/MP2/AC3 file. Delete the rest if you want to.

I find sometimes BeSweet crashes if I go straight from MP3 to MP2 or AC3 without going to WAV first - this could be the error here...
DVD2SVCD first converts the stream to WAV then to MP2, never had any problems with the audio.

Have you checked the "Do not convert audio (use source audio)" checkbox? If that's the case it could be the problem, otherwise I don't know, I haven't have any audio conversion issues using DVD2SVCD.
biblo22 wrote:
how would i know if the audio is already ac3?
its not that BeSweet crashes it just doesnt start.
Edit: Just looked at the torrent descriptions seems that the audio is already ac3, i still cant
hear anything.
Under the Conversio Tab you can see what format the audio track(s) is. If it's AC3 it says AC3, if MP3 it says MPA. If you never hear anything it's most probably a codec issue (doesn't belong here).

thanks for the help negge, ive progressed one step further, and have encounted 2 other errors.
It encoded it with sound, however it only encoded half of it, and also
after two minutes through the bbMPEG_muxed_file00 the screen goes blank and
i get a red error saying " Avisunth:caught an access violation at 0x101b1f06,
attempting to read from 0x0909700"

Hmm something's really screwed up on your end, I've never encountered errors like yours. Have you tried reinstalling all programs and all that? Maybe that would help...

I use the same version of DVD2SVCD that you get from the link, and I use v2.50 of CCE. I've had many problems with CCE and this program but v2.50 has been working fine for a long time now. Have you tried converting another AVI and see if that works?
How would I get this program to do a Avi Pal to DVD NTSC converstion when it is doing the conversion and the other stuff?
Edit: I think I found a guide on how to do it see below for a how to and the link for more details.
PAL to NTSC
~~~~~~~~
1. A few extra step need to be done in addition to the above if you wish to convert your PAL movies to NTSC, these are:
2. In the Frameserver Tab, tick the "Edit as part of video encoding" option when setting DVD2SVCD up.
3. Once DVD2SVCD is set up, run it. Just before the Editing step begins, an Edit Avisynth Script box will pop-up.
4. Edit the script to include
.
bicubicresize(720,480) <-- change the 576 to 480
Assumefps(23.976) <-- Include this line here
.
5. Click Save, then Okay and encoding will continue as usual.
6. You can let it complete its job or when encoding is finished, shut down bbMPEG or DVDAuthor and then DVD2SVCD if you happen to be around at the time.
7. Copy Pulldown.exe found in your ../DVD2SVCD/Pulldown/ folder to the Output folder that contains all your encoded files.
8. Run a DOS box and move to your Output folder, then run pulldown using the following
9. Rename (or delete) the original Encoded_video_CCE_PAL.mpv file to anything and rename the new Encoded_video_CCE_NTSC.mpv file to Encoded_video_CCE_PAL.mpv, exactly as per the original file name.
10. Run BeSweetGUI to convert the audio file Encoded_audio_1.mp2 or Extracted_audio_1.ac3 to an AC3 of the bitrate you selected in DVD2SVCD. In the main BeSweetGUI page tick the Preset box and select PAL --> NTSC (25.000 to 23.976), load in the audio file, set output to AC3 and then click the AC3 to AC3 or the MP2 to AC3 button.
11. Rename this new AC3 audio file to Extracted_audio_1.AC3, Encoded_audio_1.AC3 or Encoded_audio_1.mp2 depending on what DVD2SVCD was going to use in the final muxing stage.
12. Run DVD2SVCD, in the Misc Tab select Recover. Browse to the Default Output folder and load in the "dvd2svcd project file.d2s" file, select Authoring stage (or Muxing & Cutting stage) and click Continue. You new NTSC files will begin to be muxed/authored.
13. You can of cause just manually Author the new *.mpv and *.ac3 files in TMPGEnc DVD Author, DVDLab, Maestro, etc. as per usual
14. Naturally test the final VOB files by playing them on the PC. If all is okay and audio/video sync is correct, then burn them as per above.
15. Also remember, the next time you run DVD2SVCD, the "Edit as part of video encoding" option will still be ticked so unless your doing more PAL to NTSC conversions, you will normally need to un-tick it. I have been caught with this many times
If your on about that dvdscr-rip, its nuked for "stolen without permission" ... meaning there's nothing wrong with the file, just group wars, lol. Run the file through G-Soft and check to see if u have the right codec/(de)compressor/ installed.
I should imagine its ac3 audio, so download this: http://nchc.dl.sourceforge.net/sourcefo … _0_70b.exe
Maybe a stupid thing, but try playing the file in a player to see if it actually has audio, then u can narrow down the problem.
How do i know if the source is in NTSC or PAL,
if its in NTSC will the "NTSC to PAL" button be checkable?
because at the moment mines grey and i can't click it.
