A question on this: Are there any good games combining FPS and RTS?
The closest one I can think of is Rome Total War, thinking since you actually fight the battles.. but there could be more similarity

There are actually some RTS games which allow you to step into a vehicle and then shoot the living daylights out of the enemy. Forgot their names but they are there.

Adventure, no doubt.. Only too bad people don't really make them anymore..
today's games lack of plot. everything is based on how addictive can this game make people.
adventure i surely liked. Monkey island was one of my fav.
i dont have much time to try every single game out there
so i settle for whatever is entertaining

hard to say - i really liked Populous 3 : The Beginning (with expansion pack "Undiscovered Worlds"), which was an RTS - i bought an original, but i also really liked The Longest Journey, which is an adventure game - i also bought an original but well, i think that Populous 3 is going to stay in me for loooooooooooong time...that's why i voted for RTS
and FPS also own, but they haven't got "all the fuss"
oh, btw - i've also got some favourites from Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum, but I understand that we're talking only about PC games here (right?)

MMORPG's is the best.
I wasnt really that addicted to my computer before i started playing WoW, but now.. jeez.
Well, the MMORPG gives the player a greater FEELING, e.g WoW:
You start from scratch, zero, and you have to build yourself up to both gain respect and to keep up and not getting killed. There are several classes you can choose from (Shaman, druid, warrior, paladin and lots of more). Every class has their own special thing that they are good at.
You can also gain professions, e.g: tailoring: You can make cloths and other different things with thread and other likely stuff.
You can also have cooking, fishing a.s.o.
