I hate commercial torrent sites. There's no fun in it.

if it would not get me in trouble i would be glad to pay 30 dollars a month

#217623 by unknown[1350] at 2005-05-27 18:27:34 (8 years ago) - [Report]Top

"DL as much as you can for xx$ a month"  would propably be too expensive...
But i would pay 20€ for 12 Movies a month, but those should be in a single file, not as 2cd's..

i kinda agree, i wouldn't mind paying for something like this to be legal, but everything would have to be the exact same way as it is now, no fancy "itunes like" program or stuff like that..

if it was 100% legal, I would pay $20/month for it. But only if it was 100% legal, and nothing changed(except 4 the price part).  I luv tb the way it is.

#217780 by TAz00Donor (Power User) at 2005-05-27 20:14:03 (8 years ago) - [Report]Top

Would make no reason to pay, because the will allways be free sites... torrents arent like porn... yet, i hope

I would definitely NOT pay for any stuff provided here at TB!
This does not mean that I don`t like the stuff provided here, I love it, like I love this site! :smirk:
But I think one of the main things about warez is, that it is for FREE!
If this site WOULD get commercial, I`d definitely delete my account and look for some other place to hang out! :-/
Donations are another thing though. If this site was in danger because of lacking funds, I`d of course donate a few bucks, like 20€ or 30€, that`s for sure! :punk:

Another thing is, I doubt that it would be possible that some sort of commercial website, where users pay for what they leech, could be legal in any way... :hmmm:
As far as I understand it, the payments made would not be transferred to the Programmers/ Artists/ Regisseurs to some kind of fund, but they would be used to cover the costs of the site... AFAIK, this cannot be legal in ANY country... :-O
Furthermore this would truly be selling of warez, and selling warez, selling the hard work OTHERS made, really SUCKS! :-P
I`d say the feds would be here in no time and shut our beloved TB down and beat the :shit: out of the admins...:-/ And I don`t think we want this...at least I don`t want this!

Well if it was an amazing speed, with quick releases and contained new and old,

Most i would pay would be 5 dollars per month. Otherwise forget it b/c most stuff u can find on Emule anyways.

#218093 by unknown[3603] at 2005-05-27 23:18:06 (8 years ago) - [Report]Top

I would pay like $5 per movie I download, if I had to, since it aint really real I dont prefer it over a bought movie. Good movies I want to buy, since it makes it more real.

#218188 by unknown[5607] at 2005-05-28 00:10:31 (8 years ago) - [Report]Top

i'd pay 50 bucks per month for something like a media flatrate if it was legal. but as we know the media industry will never offer a flat for movies/apps/games.
so just for providing torrents i wouldn't pay anything, i can get illegal stuff everywhere on the net (even though not as fast as on tb). in so far i think the poll isn't precise enough, but interesting anyway

I think I'd pay somewhere around 20-50 dollars for a service like this.

For this I'd get:

  • music that doesn't even hit the stores here
  • movies with comments and direct links to imdb
  • virtually unlimited supply of games
  • musicvideos without Jamba commercials
  • latest apps for a fraction of the real cost
  • ebooks without ordering real book (prefer ebooks over real books)

Not to mention I get all of these as soon as they are released and some of them even before that.

I'd say 50 bucks is actually quite cheap for that, the Propellerheads software alone cost more than that.

  • all of that is very true, and i think we'd all be willing to pay for such a service, BUT there are people like me, who simply cant afford to pay anything. i support the software, music, movie companies when and where i can, but it's usually after the prices come down a little bit, and i dont have to worry about feeding the kids that week. otherwise i would just buy everything that caught my attention.

But jeff! Why do you want TB to be commercial?  Selling warez is wrong!

Bad idea imho, I would never pay for warez, i think TB should rethink the direction it's going in, nobody will pay.

I think groups would be madly angry with TB if they'd go commercial.

On the other hand, I think it's more of a question if you like TB so very much you'd be happy to give something to keep it around. The word money is used because to many of us money is something important.

So maybe the question is, is TB as important to you as something like money? Is it something you need?

Maybe I'm wrong, but since tb will not go commercial, maybe we should interpretate the question differently. Maybe.

    You're correct.

TB's survival plan is to start charging for access, insane amounts(like $50/mo) so that only the 1337 can join.  That way, the FBI won't care about us, because selling warez is actually more legal than giving it away for free.

    ferret edit: bad joke !

Well, one things for sure, all the different ISP's KNOW that nobdy is getting anything for free with all the money they are collecting every day. How many would need MBIT+ connections just to surf the net. Like it or not, we are all PAYING now, a few like to think they are getting warez for FREE. ;-)

Forgot to say, would pay around £30, thats £10 less than my connection charge. ;-)

    same here..

and here's some food for thought.. this site could never stay the way it is now if it was a pay-based service. most members would demand that ratio become irrelevent and as we all know, the SLR is what this bittorrent site is based upon.

i know this was a curiousity poll but the whole idea is very unrealistic. the flat rate fee's that most people are willing to pay would never cover the bandwidth costs from the various games/movies/apps/music industries nor would it even come close to paying for licences for various professional applications that i have seen on here.

of course all of this is hypothetical

good poll though it got people thinking

i would not pay for stuff like that... why not..:

    music:
latest album i bought was 8 years ago... some crapy cd whicg costed me to much money.
after that i listened radio/mtv/box etc.
now i download a lot of music just for my own pleasure... the same music i listen on the radio and see/hear @ tv. when i tape the tv and rip the songs is that criminal too ( i pay for my tv cable). whould i buy cd's when there wasnt something like warez? no cause its is way to expensive. would i buy music if i could pay like 10 euro a month to get all files legal and in good quality no matter how much number i would download.. a big change.. i would.

    gamez:
8 years ago i played games. a game costed like 35-40 euro. for me as 16 year old with an job what payed like 2.5 euro a hour it was extremely expensive. so i bought 100 games in 1 cd for 5 euro, copied it from friends or bought it from some games dealer @ school. most of the games also where so bad that after 1 hour playing i threw it away. some games who were really good (star wars-rebel assault, half-life, warcraft, command and conquer, wolfenstein 3d) i bought cause i thaught that they were really good and they deserved my money for making it. however i dont play games anymore so i dont buy or download them.

    apps:
now i have the usual programs like windows, office, burning software nero and some other apps.
all are illegal cause paying 150 euro for windows is ridicilous. now i can buy windows and office really cheap on my university but i can use it for free on uni-pc's too.  they charge people way to much for things like that and after 2 years u need new software. so they can fuck themselve or lower prices. and nero i got free with my burner and i update it with some key gens

    movies:
in earlier days u could not get movies by downloading the, quality was bad or my connection to slow (33k6 modems ) going to the cinema i did with girlfriends. like a few times a year. now i can download like every movie i want and i do that. does it mean i changed cinema-visits? no not really. i think i go now often to cinema's then before the warez was avaible to me. why? it is always nice to go to the sneak with some friends. and besides that i dont have the money to watch all movies in cinema (cinema--) 7 euro ticket, drinks and food--> 5 euro--> 12 euro for a movie and @ home it is like 2 euro for beer and snacks)
if they would lower the prices i probably would go more often to cinema's but i dont think producers loose money cause people like me download movies.

besides that when i want to see a movie like american pie again its more easier to download it than rent it. why should i pay for a movie who i have seen on tv?

That's what this is about!  If it wasn't warez, but actually legal, would you pay!

I mean with a nice case and disk etc.

I'd probably find an alternative, but given the ammount of stuff on here I'd probably pay for it...

We do kind of pay for it already..

We pay monthly costs for our internet connections (most likely)

And for that we can surf the net including downloading files/warez from wherever

    #218838 by unknown[3603] at 2005-05-28 12:57:33 (8 years ago) - [Report]Top

I think $50/month isn't a very good idea. Instead you should only pay for what you download.
The ISP could track your downloads and add something like $5 to your internet bill for every movie/game/etc. you download, and give that money to whom ever is the problem.
